Healthy Youth Survey
Healthy Youth Survey
The Cascade School District participates in Washington State’s Healthy Youth Survey, which is administered every two years to students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12. The biennial Healthy Youth Survey is a joint effort between the state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, Department of Health, Department of Social Health Service's Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse, the Community Trade and Economic Development, and the Family Policy Council. Questions for students, in this optional survey, focus on risky behaviors as well as safety and violence, physical activity and diet, and emotional well being.
Every two years, the survey is administered during the month of October, and results of the survey are released from the state the following spring. A team, comprised of school staff, parents, mental health professionals and community members, then works to analyze the data. Once completed, the team's analysis is presented to Cascade School District principals, counselors and administrators to help inform school improvement planning. They review data from the survey, and make comparisons with state average results and perceptions from previous years, providing the basis for in-depth discussions about the health of youth in our community. The data offers insights on where our schools may want to focus more efforts and resources, to support students and encourage healthy lifestyle decisions.
