SUMMER MEALS - SUN BUCKS

Sun Bucks is a new food benefit available to WA families with school-aged children. You can receive $120 per child to buy groceries during the summer while free and reduced-price meals aren't available at your school(s). All free and reduced-price students, that have been approved and in the Cascade SD system this year (this does not include Alpine students unless they turned in a form or were direct certified), have been uploaded to OSPI and will automatically be sent their benefits. There is an option for others to sign up here.

For full details and additional questions about S-EBT benefits, please visit the DSHS SUN Bucks webpage (Washington SUN Bucks Summer EBT Program | DSHS) or call the S-EBT Contact Center at (833) 543-3230 between 8 am and 5 pm Monday–Friday (except observed holidays).

School Meals for the 2024-2025 School Year
Cascade Families:

At the end of last school year, the Washington State legislature passed House Bill 1238 which allows schools to provide meals at no cost to students in grades K-4 enrolled in elementary schools where 40% or more of enrolled children are eligible for free or reduced-price meals.

Regardless of other grade levels served in the school, any school that serves students in any of the above grades (K-4) qualifies as an "elementary school". Once a school qualifies under House Bill 1238, ALL students - regardless of grade level - will be offered meals at no cost.

Within Cascade School District, Alpine Lakes Elementary School qualifies.  This means that Alpine Lakes students will all receive free meals during the 2023-2024 school year (grades 3-5).  Unfortunately, Peshastin-Dryden Elementary School did not qualify for the 2023-2024 school year.

Both elementary schools are encouraging families to complete and submit free and reduced meal applications (by Oct 15) for this year so they can hopefully qualify for the 2024-2025 school year. Even if your student does not take school meals, there is funding attached to the percentage of students who qualify for free and reduced that provides many benefits that extend beyond meals, such as additional staffing in schools. They may also be eligible to receive reduced fees for other programs such as field trips and event fees.

You can print the forms from the links below, pick up the application at school offices, the district office, or online through Family Access/Skyward.

Additional benefits students who are approved for free and reduced price meals may be eligible for:
 - Home Internet Access
 - Event Fees
 - Field Trips
 - Advanced Placement Tests
 - Running Start Books
 - ASB Fees
 - Pre-College Exams (PSAT/SAT)
 - College Application Fees
